Tastes of Tradition:
Exploring China's Regional Cuisines and Culture

Course Description

In this 5 session introductory course, we’ll explore China’s rich history and culture through its diverse regional cuisines. Food will be our lens for understanding the unique flavors, stories, and traditions of each region. Join Dr. Xiaokun Song, founder of Sourcians and an expert in Chinese culinary traditions, as she guides us through the culinary landscapes of China, unveiling the histories, politics, and cultural narratives behind each dish.

We’ll dive into how geography influences regional cuisines and uncover the cultural meanings and values embedded in specific foods. The first four sessions will focus on lectures and engaging discussions, while the final class will feature a belated Spring Festival celebration, where friends and family are invited to join in the festivities.

By the end of the course, you’ll not only gain a deeper appreciation for China’s diverse culinary traditions but also develop a new perspective for reflecting on and learning about your own culture.
